I received the “Imminent Failure” message, in regards to my hard drive, last night. I think there is no greater sense of material loss, than losing your hard drive.”Imminent Failure” is a creative way to say, it is all gone. All your data, pictures, words, programs, all gone. I immediately ran hard drive diagnostics, and those proved my hard drive was fried. I purchased a replacement Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive and installed it all by myself.

After determining your hard drive has indeed fried, and the data is unable to be recovered, you will need to install a new hard drive too. If your notebook computer has a remaining warranty, the parts and labor for the hard drive should be covered at no cost to you. If, like me, you have had your notebook computer since the invention of the Internet, you will either have to pay a professional to install your new hard drive, or tackle it all by yourself. I chose to self install.

When I opened the box to the Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive, I was expecting a step by step instruction booklet. You know, like the one's that are included with self-assemble furniture or exercise equipment. I wanted an illustrated guide to installation. What I got, was a little yellow note, telling me to pay someone to install the hard drive.

The Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive packaging does NOT tell me to take out the notebook battery for my safety. Nor am I told, the hard drive is usually noted with a picture of three or four CD shapes on the underside of the notebook casing. I was NEVER told to remove my RAM cover and safely uninstall my RAM boards before removing my old hard drive.

It would have been nice if the Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive packaging explained how I should wear gloves whenever handling my RAM or new hard drive. I even expected to be advised I would need to reuse the hard drive carriage and jumper pin hardware installed on my old hard drive.

The Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive works wonderfully in my HP Pavilion ze4500 notebook computer. I was truly disappointed, though, in our consumer driven world, that the makers of the Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive truly expected me to hire someone to install the hard drive. I have rated the installation support for the Seagate 160 GB Internal Notebook Hard Drive with 0 out of 5 stars. This product is geared toward making the sellers more money through installation costs and not geared toward saving the consumer some big bucks. Seagate is not a friendly consumer company.

Fighting Keratosis Pilaris (KP)

Keratosis Pilaris is a hereditary skin condition that is very common, and though it isn't curable, it is highly treatable. Keratosis Pilaris, or KP, appears as little red bumps on the arms, legs and buttocks and resembles “goose bumps” or “chicken skin.” These bumps usually don't hurt or itch (unless skin is very dry) and is more prominent in younger people (it can resolve itself over the years in some people.)
 
The bumps themselves are actually caused by the skin's inability to slough dead skin cells efficiently, which leads to clogged hair follicles. Exfoliation is the key to treating KP but it must be done carefully – over scrubbing makes Keratosis Pilaris much more inflamed-looking and irritated.
 
A combination of chemical exfoliators like glycolic acid, urea and salicylic acid should be used in conjunction with a physical exfoliant or scrub. The trick to using scrubs is to use them quickly, lightly, and more frequently – rather than applying them too hard or too long in one application.
 
Although retinoids (like Retin-A) are excellent at helping with small patches of Keratosis Pilaris, use all over large patches of skin is both potentially irritating and expensive. However, as with Retin-A, use of chemical exfoliants requires both limiting sun exposure and using a broad spectrum sunscreen on the effected areas.
 
Cleansers
 
Since you're using a scrub in this regimen already, body cleansers should be gentle, non-oily, and if possible, contain anti-inflammatory ingredients.
 
Some examples of gentle, soothing body cleansers are:

If your skin is very sensitive and you'd prefer not to use a scrub at all, try:

 - Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 3% Shower & Body Cleansing Gel

Scrubs are the next step (if you're choosing to have that in your regimen) and remember not to over use the products. It's better to use a scrub lightly, and more frequently, than to risk over-abrading the skin and causing irritation. If you're unsure whether to use a scrub, try a test patch on the inside of your arm first, and see if any irritation develops. Masks

This next step is optional, but highly encouraged for treating Keratosis Pilaris – the body mask. Masks can help remove dead skin gently and thoroughly. Though it can be a bit messy, body masking can make a huge difference in how well other products work. It can also replace using a physical scrub for sensitive skin types. Again, if you're unsure of your skin's sensitivity, try the mask on the inside of your arm first, to see if any irritation occurs.
 
One of the very best masks to use all over the body is also one of the cheapest and has the longest history:
 
 - Queen Helene Masque, Mint Julep – originally developed by a Dermatologist, this mask is great on face and body. Since you'll be applying the mask over larger amounts of skin than just your face, cost can be an issue. Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque is very economical for that reason.

After the actions of the past week or so watching the manner that the president has handled the issue regarding illegal immigrants, as well as the issue America's position in the world as a whole. I asked myself if this was not the most un-American President the US has ever had? If someone would have asked me who I thought the most un-American President was a few years ago I would have said Franklin Roosevelt or Bill Clinton. Franklin Roosevelt due to the fact that he is responsible for the expansion of the “War Powers Act” definition of enemies to include not just those from without the United States, but within the United States, the unconstitutionally confiscation of gold from the American people, the more than probable manipulation of the American people into World War 2, not mention the fact that he help orchestrate the United State's entry into the United Nations.

Bill Clinton gets the distinction of being, openly, the greatest lover of the United Nations ever. No other President ever openly admitted that the United Nation's Declaration of Human Rights “was the greatest single document for freedom ever written”. Never mind American documents such as the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution for the united states which his supposed to have sworn to uphold and protect. Mr. Clinton also gets credit to signing into existence greatest surrender, at the time, of US sovereignty to another body, the North American Free Trade Agreement . Clinton also gets the blue ribbon for ushering a new chapter to a relic international organization, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization , new life by turning it from a strictly defensive body to an offensive one when he ordered the US military forces to attack and invade the sovereign nation of Serbia-Yugoslavia, with NATO's assistance. Therefore, he laid precedence for not just invading a sovereign nation without provocation, but under the guise of humanitarianism. But, the most egregious act performed under the Clinton reign was the beginning systematic transference of critical technological and American infrastructure to communist China, as reported in the Cox Report.

The one that takes home the gold as the most un-American US president ever in the history of America is George W. Bush. Mr. Bush has presided over the greatest lost of American's personal freedoms and liberties, as well as America's economic and national sovereignty. Before Mr. Bush's regime, the federal government reported a surplus on the principle of it's debt, a trade balance that was manageable. The size if the government was not overbearing in regards to the American people and outsourcing and illegal-immigration was not at a critical mass. Americans still had promising outlooks on manufacturing and technological professions and America still had recognizable national borders. China and India were just two big countries, with a lot of people, with a couple of nukes owned by China. Iraq was a manageable nuisance, where few Americans could point out on a map if their live depended on it. And America still had some semblance of a moral and just compass to present to the world. Excluding the event of 9-11-01, maybe including, Mr. Bush has done everything in his power degenerate America into a borderless nation with little or no means to feed or clothe itself, nor produce what it needs to defend itself, i.e., vital technology and material infrastructure.

Mr. Bush's regime is the biggest spending in US/American history, with nearly 50% increase in discretionary spending, that's not including entitlements. Since the 1960's, G.W has increased the budget, in all categories – defense, domestic, and entitlements -, in real annualized growth rate by nearly 6% – including defense at nearly a whopping 9%. This compared to Vet Nam era Lyndon Johnson at a total of 5.7% and defense just at 4.9%. Under Bush, the defense bill to the US taxpayer is increased to more than 24%. Bear this in mind, under Ronald Reagan, his total comes in at 2.6%, with defense spending at half of G.W's, and that's with Reagan cutting taxes across the board and the top 70% tax rate cute to 28%. G.W has yet to see a single spending bill that he has not salivated over in over 7 years. Mr. Bush's regime has overseen the greatest expansion of the federal government in US history with the PATRIOT Acts, No Child Left Behind, the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security, the prescription drug expansion for seniors, REAL ID Act, and many more acts that has brought both the notion of State rights and individual rights, as well as liberties to rude awakening. Today, America has more citizens behind in the penal system or behind bars than any nation on the planet, including Communist Russia and China.

According to the AFL-CIO, G.W has gone above and beyond super-human abilities to suppressing America's prosperity, with the horrific amount of job lost, the unprecedented flood of illegal-migrants – particularly from Mexico -, and the increase in the US trade deficit, particularly with Communist China. His regime has not only done little, or nothing to stop this negative tide, but has greatly aided in the opening of the dikes. It has refused to enforce our trade laws, refused to enforce our immigration laws, and has encouraged companies to relocate to other countries, in particular Communist China. All the while, has established Nazi-like policies on the citizens of the United States, via such laws and policies as the PATRIOT Acts, that virtually controls and or monitors the movements and behavior of it's citizens, and has squashed any policy that would have vaguely represented a “America First” position via his regime's domestic-benefit-challenged international trade policies. America has lost more than 3 million high-paying, high-skilled manufacturing jobs and greater than 1 million professional and service sector jobs under G.W's regime, and there is still two more years to go. The United States' trade debt has increased some 37% since 2001 and is currently running greater than $13 Billion trade imbalance in manufacturing alone. All the while his regime wants to open control of our best surviving money-making industry, Airlines, over to the Europeans and is removing all restrictions to every nation on the planet to dump all of their goods on America from everything textiles to electronics, lumber to steel, and mangoes to beef, while not applying any duty to reciprocate in fairness, particularly when it comes to Communist China. America is today the world's biggest importer.

G.W has topped Bill Clinton in un-constitutional military intervention into another sovereign country with his invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. Quite simply this administration has initiated warfare unilaterally and without any proven provocation, with regards to Afghanistan, and without any provocation from Iraq that threaten this country directly. The stated reason for the intervention in Iraq has been not due to any Constitutional breach or threat, but United Nations' Resolution. This has placed the US as the UN's enforcer. It has placed a huge bulls-eye on America and the United States, rather than the UN. Yet, the UN is not offering, nor is the US on record of requesting, reimbursement for the over Billion dollars a day expense to the US taxpayers, now approaching $400 Billion, and totaling over 3 thousand deaths and more than 23 thousand wounded. The “war” is not a war declared by Congress, but a police action sponsored by the United Nations and approved, via resolution, by the US Congress. And the fact that G.W has not presented to the American people why our sons and daughters are dying and are to continue to die indefinitely, if he has anything to with it, for no stated American threat, at the same time allows China to expand militarily and economically, and illegal immigrants to invade us without sufficient redress which directly present a national threat, is unconscionable.

Mr. Bush's regime has ushered in America for illegal-immigrants and America being a place in name only, rather than a nation of laws and boundaries. America has for the first time has a greater number of illegal immigrants then legal immigrants and that number is greatly increasing hourly. Some five years removed from the supposed terrorist attack, where we were to be placed on high alert of foreigners within our borders undocumented or unknown, this regime has blatantly allowed the southern borders to be opened to anyone who could get through get through, and given aide and comfort by sponsoring defense of illegal-immigration positions, not funding, and or under funding, local and States' fights against the illegal's evasion, and unlawful sanctuaries throughout the nation. Even more alarming, Mr. Bush has entered into a trilateral agreement with Mexico and Canada to virtually surrender America's Sovereignty via the Security and Prosperity Partnership Act without Congressional oversight, sanction, nor authority. SPP would literally eliminate America's independence and sovereignty, and subordinate the US Constitution that we owe our blessings of liberty and freedoms to. The SPP union will be called the North American Union and is to have a single currency, not the US Dollar, but the Amero. Again, the agreement has been, and is being, pursued without the blessing of the Congress as well as the American people, but is being aggressively pursued by this president of the United States, Mr. George W. Bush.

If you have ever closely listened to G.W speak of a nation's prosperity it never is, if hardly, that of America's. It is usually that of another nation's, whether it be Iraq, Viet Nam, Mexico, India, or any other nation, or group of nations. America's prosperity always seems to be taking up the caboose in G.W's world. There is no other president in my memory can I so starkly recall the total absence of America's wellbeing, greatness, and or future significant relevance in real substantiate action and dialog. This man doesn't speak of America's superiority when it comes to the ability to outperform any other nation, if it is given a fair and even playing field. Instead, we hear of how we should open our borders and markets because we can not do for ourselves. G.W does not say if anyone chooses to immigrate to the America, he must do so legally and must assimilate into American culture and learn English. Instead, he speaks and behaves in a manner as though we should acquiesce to them and learn their language and customs. And if America is facing economical and educational challenges internationally, we should marshal up energy and drive to become the most financial and literate nation on the planet to not only compete with all nations, but beat them. But, instead of a United States president leading America to achieve it's best, he chants the benefits of globalization, outsourcing, and of surrendering our shirt from our backs to other nations, while leaving America naked and vulnerable.

America was established to be the shining light on the hill for all to seek to accomplish their dreams and aspiration, not become a burden or a live off the accomplishments of others. The US Presidency is constitutionally a position of Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces and figurehead of the federal government, not a position of law enactments or creations. The Congress is the only body to make Law. But, we the people need demand the proper and appropriate use of government authority. The power of the government still rests with people, we the people is the government. We just have to act like it. We should never get so blinded by the person's persona of who holds the position that we lose sight of that person's deeds. We need to as a nation remember what is so special about America and what it means to an American, and not shrink from standing from American values due to political correctness. Teddy Roosevelt may have said best, “Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does NOT mean to stand by the President or any other public official save exactly to the degree in which he himself stands by the country. It is patriotic to support him insofar as he efficiently serves the country. It is unpatriotic not to oppose him to the exact extent that by inefficiency or otherwise he fails in his duty to stand by the country.”

The Wave-Particle Duality of Matter and Energy
In the early 1920's, Louis de Broglie proposed that if energy is particle-like, perhaps matter is wavelike; therefore, if electrons have wavelike motion and are restricted to orbits in fixed radii, that would explain why they have only certain possible frequencies and energies. From the mass-energy equivalence (E=mc2) with that for the energy of a photon (E = hv = hc/λ) to derive a formula for the wavelength of any particle of mass “m” moving at a speed “u”: λ = h/mu.
According to this equation, matter does behave as though it moves in a wave (Note: an object's wavelength is inversely proportional to its mass, so heavy objects, such as planets and baseballs, have wavelengths that are many orders of magnitude smaller than the object itself.

1. The principle quantum number (n): is a positive integer. This number defines the size of the electrons orbit. It also defines the energy level to which the electron is at.
2. The angular momentum quantum number (L): is an integer from 0 to n-1. This number defines the shape of the orbital.
3. The magnetic quantum number (ml): is an integer from -L through 0 to +L. It defines the orientation of the orbital in the space around the nucleus and is sometimes called the orbital-orientation quantum number (Note: if L = 0, then ml = 0 and if L = 1 then ml = -1, 0 or +1).
4. Electron – spin quantum number (ms): is either +½ or -½ and simply denotes the spin the electron has.

Reduplicative Word Forms in English

Shortly after the Michael Richards “n-word” uproar, I read a column in the News-Press (a Fort Myers, Florida daily) by Leonard Pitts, a Miami Herald columnist of African descent, entitled: “Richards wakes black people to N-word hate.” In the column Pitts asserts that if you are “black” and you use the word “nigger” or “nigga” that means you hate yourself and, of course, every other person of African descent. In addition, in reference to the word “nigger,” he writes, “…this word still hates us.” Can a word hate? In any event, he was responding to the incident where Michael Richards, former stand-up comic wannabe, laced his response to hecklers with the word “nigger.” I had intended to script a short, comical, tongue in cheek response to this entire episode, but reading this column prompted me to take it just a tad further

In this response, I'll address three elements of Mr. Pitts's column that I find questionable: 1) His contention that if you are of African descent and use the terms “nigger” or “nigga,” then you hate yourself and the entire group of people who are of African descent; 2) the use of his access to the public forum to demean those who hold a perspective different from his, in a manner similar to those who use the term “nigger” in attempts to demean people of African descent; and 3) his use of the socially acceptable and disingenuous “N-word” substitute for the term “nigger.”

Regarding the self hatred element, I don't use the terms “nigger” in public discourse because I know that it would be offensive to others, and I would have no reason to use it in private, unless it was to refer to someone else's use of the term. I don't use the term “nigga,” because I don't happen to move in circles where that term is used as a matter of course. Were I a part, and/or interacting with members, of a culture wherein the term “nigga” is used affectionately, or as a term equivalent to “person,” I would have no problem using the term. I don't think I would hate myself or anyone else anymore than I do now if I did use the term. It seems rather absurd to me to contend that merely using a word that represents a derogatory manner of referring to a group to which you ostensibly belong constitutes self-hatred. But then, I'm sure Mr. Pitts and I have different definitions of hatred. It seems to me more “hateful” to try to force your interpretations of a word on others as opposed to accepting their interpretations of the same word.

There are many who hold a perspective different from Pitts's who don't have access to a daily newspaper column to publish those perspectives. Among these individuals are language scholars who make it their life's work to understand language and how members of various groups use it, and they have had their perspectives published in peer-reviewed academic journals. Some of these individuals contend that the co-opting or reversing of word connotations, as in the conversion of “nigger” to “nigga,” is one technique used by slaves to thwart their oppressors, as a form of rebellion against the powers that be. Utilizing language in such a way would constitute neither self-hatred nor hatred of one's subjective identity group. I think it important for the uninformed who read Mr. Pitts's column to know that many of the “pseudo-intellectuals” at whom Pitts (surely a “real” intellectual) aimed his ad hominem attack are scholars of African descent who are well respected in their fields.

Pitts notes that “anyone with the barest historical memory already knew” that the term “nigger” (and by association, “nigga”) is hateful, “demeans, denigrates, diminishes and denies,” and wonders how come it has taken Richards's racialized outburst to stimulate this call to arms. He refers to as a “Negro” anyone one who provides “pseudo-intellectual justification for that self-loathing,” i.e., anyone who offers an argument for the legitimate usage of “nigga.” I assert that those who have any understanding of the historical identity politics of naming within the African American community would know that calling an African American a “Negro” is tantamount to calling him/her an “Uncle Tom,” which would be the equivalent of an individual of European descent calling him/her a “nigger.” It seems to me that Pitts intends to demean, denigrate, diminish and deny anyone who doesn't share his perspective on the terms in question. Let those who live in glass houses…

I can certainly understand Mr. Pitts's distaste for the words “nigger” and “nigga” and for those who use them. During my sophmore year in high school, I had only been playing tennis for a year or so when I made it to the quarterfinals of the high school state championships. Early in the match, I was doing well against one of the top seeds in the tournament. We were changing sides after a game and he said something to me using the word “nigger.” “What did you say?” came my classic response, complete with temperature skyrocketing, heartbeat thumping, fists clenching, and generally making ready for some well-warranted violence…at least that's how I looked at things when I was less mentally and emotionally mature. I was practically apoplectic during that episode, and it was 30 years ago so it's kind of hazy now, but I think the coaches had to come onto the court to keep me from outright physical assault. I do remember spending the rest of the match trying to hit my opponent with the ball, seething the entire match. I don't believe we exchanged the customary handshake after the match.

Essentially, that kid was smarter than I was at the time and he knew the impact of the word. I don't know if he was a racist, but he certainly used the word guaranteed to get you labeled “racist” and draw the most extreme responses. I responded extremely in that instance and ended up losing the match. His use of the word controlled me as easily as if he had a leash around my neck and a whip in his hand. Being a teenager at the time, my personal identity was tentatively forming and heavily invested in perceived group belonging. Any perceived attack on that identity was guaranteed to elicit my most intense ego-defense mechanism.

As I have matured, I have come to understand that my personal identity does not need to be so heavily invested in physical characteristics that are used to define group membership, especially since I had no say in possessing those characteristics. I have matured enough to learn that my self-worth is not contingent upon what someone else thinks or says, especially when that individual has no knowledge of who I am, and is so underdeveloped a human being as to resort to racial slurs. My identity is more invested in how I treat others (as in whether or not I demean them with my words or actions) rather than how I look or how others think of or treat me. I have even matured enough to believe that others have the right to use the words “nigger” and “nigga” regardless of whether I find them offensive or not. Whether others have the right to use the two terms, one a racial slur, the other a co-option and positive redefinition of the slur, is a debate that will continue to wage.

The final thought on this matter that I will explore here pertains to Mr. Pitts's (and just about anyone who holds a public position) use of the term, “n-word” as a substitute for “nigger.” It seems disingenuous and somewhat asinine to write and say “N-word,” when everyone who sees and hears it understands that it means “nigger.” Are we that foolish? Sorry to offend here, but it's just to make a point: Who is the F-word A-word that came up with the notion that all you have to do is not say the whole word and that makes it okay? And how is it that so many “smart” people have gone along with this piece of brilliance. BRILLIANT!”

Let me indulge in a little more brilliance for a moment. Substitute the Guinness characters with two Gangsta Rappers:

Pretty silly, don't you think? I understand that hearing the word “nigger” stirs deeply rooted feelings, calls to the forefront the knowledge that we, the group of people classified as “black,” “of color,” or “of African descent,” were and still are considered inferior by many. I understand that the word “nigga” is a derivative of that word, and therefore holds the same connotation for many. My question is: “How is saying “n-word,” which everyone knows means “nigger,” any different? If Richards had used “n-word” instead of “nigger” would that have made his tirade better? Is it that in using “n-word” we acknowledge that there is something to be talked about, but that something is so heinous that we can't even say it out loud?

This discourse about the “N-word” has prompted me to think about some other terms that we use. In particular, it seems that we are able to use the term “bitch” on television, at work, and just about anywhere without there being an outcry, without the users losing their jobs, and without celebrities and intellectuals coming out against those who use it. Now why is that? It seems to me that to call a woman a “bitch” is no less degrading than calling someone of African descent a “nigger.” Is it okay to use the term “bitch” because women as a group are somehow less deserving of dignity than people of African descent as a group? Is it because women themselves use the term? Is it okay to use the term “bitch” because women's rights groups haven't raised enough of a stink? Is it because women didn't go through a historical phenomenon as properly labeled as slavery was? According to Mr. Pitts's logic, anyone who uses the term “bitch,” regardless of context, in reference to a woman must hate women, and any woman who uses it must hate herself as well as all women. As you know, I don't buy Mr. Pitts' logic, but if you do and you use “N-word” instead of “nigger,” then you might consider using the term “B-word” if you use the term “bitch.”

In closing, I'd like to call on all socially conscious and conscientious women and men reading this to join PAWW (People for the Advancement of Weary Women- women weary of being called and treated like bitches), an organization that lobbies for the use of the socially acceptable term “B-word” instead of “bitch.” By the way, I don't use the term “bitch” either for the same reasons that I don't use the term “nigger.” It has little to do with hate, and a lot to do with common courtesy to my fellow human beings regardless of skin color, gender, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, language, or ability-including intellectual.

3. Simutrans – Remake of Transport Tycoon

“Transport Tycoon (TT) and Transport Tycoon Deluxe (TTD) are computer games in which the player is in control of a transport company, and can compete against rival companies to make as much profit as possible, by transporting passengers and various goods by road, rail, sea or by air.”

I remembered spending a hours playing Transport Tycoon when I was still in school. You get to learn some basic economics and business skills. Great for a young mind to play as it is addictive and educational. Parents might just want to introduce this game to their children. Sadly economic building games are no longer hot games and very little companies actually develop them anymore. Simutrans has simple graphics but the underlying game play is very complex and there is much to learn.

4. NetHack – Remake of Hack

“NetHack is a single-player roguelike computer game originally released in 1987. It is an evolution of an earlier game called Hack (1985), which was itself an evolution of Rogue (1980). The “hack” element refers to a genre of role-playing games known as hack and slash for their focus on combat.”

The player takes the part of a dungeon-diving hero in search of the Amulet of Yendor. The dungeon spans over 50 levels, most of which are randomly generated. The dungeon contains monsters, weaponry, magical items, hidden doors and more.Diablo, Titan quest has great graphics. Nethack has no graphics to speak of. Instead it compensates by adding very flexible gameplay. Using ASCII characters to represent monsters and walls, it creates a random universe everytime you step into the game. I tried it once but I found that I kept dying. Not for the faint hearted I guess. But as an RPG, it is the golden benchmark of game play

Civilization is one of the longest running franchises in computer gaming history. The latest is Civilization 4 which incorporates multiplayer. Civilization is another turn based game that I played a lot of. Even recently I had play matches of civ 4 with my friends. This game definitely brings out the “one more turn” syndrome that sucks you into the game and refuses to let you go until the game ends.

7. FreeCol – Remake of Colonization

“Colonization has many similarities to Sid Meier's previous title, Civilization. Both games pit the player as a godlike leader of an embattled civilization, the objective being to gain supremacy over rival civilizations, primarily through military means and discovery, but also through diplomacy, economics, and the strategic transformation and utilization of the land. In Civilization the player begins the game in 4000BC, with a 'primitive' tribe which “gradually builds up a sophisticated conglomeration of cities… infrastructure, units, resources” and scientific know-how, “nearly everything is quantified (not only money, production of units, and infrastructure but also science and culture). Colonization is very similar to civilization. Both comes from the great game designer, sid miero. Colonization takes place in the great immigration of the New World. There is a stronger focus on economics and diplomacy compared to Civilization. A game I played in between civilization 1 and civilization 2.

8. UFO:_Alien_Invasion – Remake of X-COM: UFO Defense

Another remake of a classic game. UFO Alien Invasion is a turn based tactical game when you do battles with aliens. In addition you also have to allocate resources to develop new technologies and build new bases. Games of these type have almost become non existent now. The closest I think is Company of Heroes.

New Ideas for the Left-hand Gift List

HELLO? Can anybody read? There is a reason for the signs along the highway that read “Slower Traffic Keep Right” but yet it seems that there are not too many people out there that can read. If they can read, then they can't follow simple directions. Everyday I travel on major highways back and forth to work and if it wasn't for slow left lane drivers, I would probably arrive at work less stressed. In the 20+ years that I've been driving on I've come to realize that this will never change. What a shame that it. If slower traffic actually kept right, the rest of us could get to where we are going a lot faster. Now granted, there are days that I don't have any desire to rush to work or anywhere else for that matter. You will then find me on those days in the middle lane, but I will, at the very least, be going the speed limit. As much as “Slower Traffic Keep Right” means don't travel under the speed limit in the left lane, it certainly should not be implying to any driver that it is okay to go 10 mph under the speed limit. You will cause major traffic jams if not an accident by doing this. Please people, try to remember that the left lane should basically be used as a passing lane. Once you have an opening in the lane to the right, then move over to allow a faster vehicle behind you to pass, then you can move back into the left lane if you need to contiue to pass cars, then again , MOVE BACK OVER.

One thing drivers should be aware of is that if you are driving in the left lane and someone begins to tailgate you, then once again, MOVE OVER! There is no benefit to you or anyone else on the road if you take it personally and choose to stay right where you are with a vehicle practically performing an internal exam on your car. Let me ask you this? What does that get you? Now you've slowed down because the person behind you has made you angry and you figure “I'll show them.” You are endangering the lives of everyone else around you by being this stupid. Take the intiative and get out of the lane as safely and quickly as you can, allowing the tailgater to go by. Believe me it's safer to let them get far away from you and if they are in that much of a hurry, they'll be out of sight before you know it and you can continue to your destination safely.

Additionally, by driving in the left lane and holding up traffic because you are travelling slower than the traffic to the right, you will eventually be causing someone else to drive aggressively. I should khow. I've done it many times myself. Everyday I travel the same highway and everyday it is the same. In fact, it is so backwards that I have to laugh about it. I have to merge onto the highway first (guess what, everyone is in the right lane while traffic is trying to merge in) then once I get onto the highway and we should be moving at the speed limit, everyone then travels in the two left lanes, leaving the two right lanes wide open. So here I am in the left lane and I will have to change two to three lanes to the right just so I can go around the slower traffic. Most times I am travelling a much higher rates of speed in the far right lane than the cars in the far left. Does this make any sense?

And let's just add as a final note, when there is a merge lane, the vehicles in the right lane should either move over to allow the merging traffic in, or if you can't move over, then try to pace yourself so merging traffic can slip in………… but that's a whole different subject. Don't get me started. I'm already freaking out thinking about getting on the highway when I leave work, but I promise, if you're behind me, I will move over to let you pass.

Jason Yungbluth is the creator of Deep Fried, a comic for people who like BEER! WOMEN! SPORTS! GADGETS!–wait, that's the blurb for Maxim. Deep Fried is for people who would like to take every reader of Maxim and give them a colonoscopy with the Hubble space telescope. This interview was conducted via email.

Steve Johnson: First off, where did the name Deep Fried come from?

Jason Yungbluth: A friend of mine, from when I was a lowly (and terrible) artist at a T-shirt company, often commented that I was “fried,” as a reflection on the state of my brain and my humor. We shared a similar comedic sensibility though, and he got me into Negativland and Firesign Theatre. Anyway, seeing as how my comic was meant to plumb the depths of my evilness, the name Deep Fried seemed appropriate.

SJ: Is Deep Fried your first major work in the comics field, or have you done this before?

JY: “Major work?” You flatter me, sir! I've done a few small-press thingies for other folks, Forever Eve for Shadow Song, The Accumulator for Buffalo Nickle Comics, both of those as penciller. I also pencilled two issues of a comic book for Caliber called Tatters, which has yet to be released. Those weasels have lost my art for issue #1, incidentally, and are trying to avoid paying me any form of compensation. For God's sake, young artists: DO NOT DO WORK FOR CALIBER!

SJ: What comics do you read, and what artists/writers/creators do you feel have influenced your work?

JY: Read COMICS? That shit's for wussy boys! I read sports pages and Tom Clancy novels! That's steak for the brain, baby! Okay, to be honest, I read a FEW comics. I read Transmetropolitan, mostly because I like gritty sci-fi and also because I think I could write and draw it about ten times better (Fuck you. I could). I like Authority, but I'm sorely pissed that Frank Quitely has jumped ship to work on a new piece of X-shit for Marvel. I like most anything by Evan Dorkin. Ditto Jhonen Vasquez, and I read Patty Cake for my cutsey-poo fix. Frank Miller, John Byrne and Bill Sienkiewicz are my strongest influences artistically. I'd have to thank Evan Dorkin for inspiring my alternative side, and I should throw a nod to Jim Davis for Garfield, which was my earliest influence, though I despise it now.

SJ: Let's talk about some of the characters in the comic. Two of your regular characters are Beepo and Roadkill. Beepo is a cynical, alcoholic clown and Roadkill is his cat, who's sort of a cross between Garfield and Dogbert, only on crack. Anyway, my question is this: Shakes the Clown–great movie or giant waste of film?

JY: The comparison to Shakes inevitably comes up when people read Beepo. Goddamit, the drunken clown didn't originate with Shakes! All clowns are drunks! That's why making them alcoholics in fiction feels so authentic! Shakes is a perfect cult movie. In fact, I need to rent that one again, light up a bowl of premium purple chronic and laugh my scrotum off! Ironically, I have always imagined Bob Goldthwait, who played Shakes, as the voice for Roadkill. But how about Steven Wright for Beepo? I think I've just cast the voice talent for my inevitable HBO special!

SJ: One of the B&R stories in issue #1 has the pair going to the video store, which results in Roadkill holding the store hostage with a copy of The Basketball Diaries. The cover is a weird parody of the old Kool-Aid Man ads in the context of the Columbine shootings. This leads me to believe that you have strong views on some of the recent attacks on violence in movies and other media. Care to share your thoughts?

JY: I'm glad you got the Kool Aid Man reference. I was afraid that one might go over everyone's heads, seeing as how Kool Aid Man doesn't crash through walls anymore. Thanks to computers, he's been doing a lot more morphing. Strong views? You bet your Harvard-educated ass I have strong views! I can dead lift 500 pounds with my views! First off, there have been about 17 school shootings since Issue #1 of Deep Fried appeared in stores in February, and I haven't been credited with causing a single one! Fucking “Eminem” is society's nightmare now, stealing my thunder, but even he didn't get the finger pointed at him in this latest round of high school holocausts! Have I missed out on yet another trend?

It is interesting that no one went media-bashing after the most recent wave of shootings. Have you noticed how these rampages are becoming less and less memorable? See A Clockwork Orange. That dystopian future seems cozy next to how things have actually turned out! I'll take the droogies over some disaffected suburban pisspot whose daddy owns a shotgun collection any day.

SJ: Moving on to “A Peanut Scorned”–first off, let me say that I had to stop and laugh for about 10 minute when I finally caught on to who the main character was. Where did you come up with this stuff?

JY: The original inspiration was a sort of movie poster I sketched one day in high school, “Charlie Brown 2025″, and it showed a Heavy Metal-style Charlie Brown with a cyborg arm, saying “No more 'failure face.'” Then a couple of years ago, I dusted off the concept and decided to run with it. I was surprised how easily all the elements of the Peanuts tableau could be converted into a Mad Max style satire. I think this may have been Charles Schulz's original concept for the strip. It just works too well!

SJ: “A Peanut Scorned” seems to be the only ongoing story in the book, with “Beepo & Roadkill” being more episodic. Will the story continue indefinitely, or do you have an ending in mind?

JY: “A Peanut Scorned” will end in issue #4, though I have been thinking of how “Moose Miller” could be juxtaposed with “Kiss of the Spider Woman”.

SJ: Along those same lines, is the format of the book going to remain essentially the same, with 2 “Beepo and Roadkill” stories, “A Peanut Scorned,” a few shorts, and the (really fun) ad on the back?

JY: I like to have a couple “Beepo and Roadkills” per book, but there is no set format. In issue #3 there will be “Beepo and Roadkill”, “A Peanut Scorned”, two multi-page “Clarissa” strips, and, I hope, one or two additional items, plus the back cover ad. The third issue is my “Extra Tasteless” extravaganza, featuring the one act of crudity I've never seen ANYONE touch.

SJ: I'm not afraid to ask for more information about that–I really want it to be a surprise. Yeah, that's it. Anyway, Deep Fried is still a fairly new comic. What kind of response have you gotten so far? Anything particularly interesting, amusing, or disturbing?

JY: I got my first piece of fan art recently, a drawing of a stoned-out Roadkill. It made me feel like I had finally arrived! Most people really dig “A Peanut Scorned,” though I had thought the big response would be to “Clarissa Ruins Thanksgiving,” just based on the reactions I received to it at conventions. But just about everything I've heard about the book has been positive. My big trick now is to get more press!

SJ: Your web site, www.whatisdeepfried.com is pretty slick, with some neat flash animations. Do you do the site yourself?

JY: I surely did! I love Flash, and wish I had time to more. I'm in pre-production on a nasty little animated cartoon that will probably take me three weeks to complete and thirty seconds to watch. If I didn't have to hustle to finish issue #3, I could have it done lickety split. Ah, how I suffer!

SJ: What's planned for the future? Are you working on other projects, or focusing your energies on Deep Fried?

JY: The future? Eviction from my apartment, surely, and probably starvation soon after. Following that, snack time for the worms and voles of Forest Lawn! I assume that that will be the extent of my calendar until God raises me from the dead to cast me into hell. Between all these events, I will keep cranking out the comics!
